Administrative Assistant Tim Smith - 300
Mr. Smith is a native of Buckhannon. He graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School while working at Kroger for a couple years and later at a service station. After graduation, he spent a short time in the United States Air Force as a Nuclear Weapons Technician. He was stationed state side in several different states and later visited Europe for short four-year vacation. It was during this time he met his wife Christine. He then retired in 2004 while in California and moved back to Buckhannon. He worked for a couple years at Lowes then found employment with the City of Buckhannon in 2006. While working for the City, he held multiple positions such as parking enforcement, water department, utilities, mapping, and the Mayor’s office. He has worked with many great employees of the city and now holds the position of Administrative Assistant at the Buckhannon Police Department.

Chief Matt Gregory - 301
Chief Gregory began his career with the Buckhannon Police Department as a Patrolman in 1997. In 2004, Matthew was promoted to Chief of Police. Matthew has a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Fairmont State University and a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Marshall University. Since 2003, Matthew has served as Adjunct Faculty for Fairmont State University, teaching a wide array of Criminal Justice courses - covering everything from Criminal Law, Police Operations, to Police Administration. Matthew has attended a large variety of in-service training programs throughout his career, logging several hundred hours in classroom instruction. Additionally, Matthew is a certified law enforcement instructor in Police Administration and Crime Scene Investigation. From 2000 – 2002, Matthew served as a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician with the Upshur County Emergency Squad. Matthew has also volunteered as coach with both the Stockert Youth Center Basketball League as well as Upshur County Youth Soccer.

Lieutenent Doug Loudin - 302
Lt. Loudin graduated from Fairmont State College in December 1995 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Criminal Justice and Minor in Sociology. He began his career in law enforcement working as a Private Investigator / Security Supervisor for C&M Investigations. He took a position with the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department in April 1996 and remained there until 2002, when he was hired by the Buckhannon Police Department in April. Doug not only served as a substitute teacher from August 2002 to August 2003, but has also served as an Adjunct Instructor for Pierpont Community & Technical College of Fairmont State University since January 2004. He has taught courses in Criminal Evidence and Procedure, Criminal Investigation, Deviant Behavior, Juvenile Justice, Private Security, and Firearms. Doug has also been an Adjunct instructor for West Virginia Wesleyan College since August 2008, teaching classes in Juvenile Justice, Correctional Institutions, Police Works and Criminal Investigations. Doug has received training in Basic SWAT, diving, Firearms Instructor training, Instructor Development through the FBI and Field Training Supervisor, as well as various Criminal Investigations. He is a certified firearms instructor, and diver.

Sergeant Thomas Posey - 303
Sgt. Posey, a Buckhannon native, graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School in 1997. He then attended Glenville State College from 1997 to 2000. Tom has been an officer with the Buckhannon Police Department since October 2003, and graduated from the West Virginia State Police Academy in August 2004. Tom has specialized training as a Firearms Instructor. Tom is also the liaison for the Volunteers In Police Service (VIPS) program.

Sergeant Mark Stewart – 304
Sgt. Stewart began his career with the Buckhannon Police in 1994. He graduated from the 88th Basic Police Academy in December 1994. During his career, he helped create the Buckhannon Police Dept. Bicycle Patrol and the Citizen's Police Academy. Mark was able to combine his credits from Marshall University to get his Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice. In 2003, Mark was shot in the line of duty while serving a search warrant and received the Police Purple Heart Award and Meritorious Police Award. He decided to leave the department in 2003. In 2005, Mark returned to the Buckhannon Police Department and served as the Investigator. In 2014, Mark was promoted to Sergeant and helped create the Volunteers in Police Service Program (VIPS). Mark is now the Prevention Resource Officer at Buckhannon Academy Elementary School.

Sergeant William Courtney – 305
Sgt. Courtney began his career with the Buckhannon Police Department in 2008. The same year he graduated the 134th Basic Class at the West Virginia State Police Academy. He has received training in SWAT, advanced roadside impaired driving enforcement (ARIDE), and as a clandestine lab technician. William is also a field training officer (FTO) responsible for training new hires with the department.

Corporal Darin Hissam – 306
Cpl. Hissam is a native of Upshur County and graduated from BUHS in 2000. He then attended Fairmont State University graduating in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a minor in History. He began his career in law enforcement in 2006 with the West Virginia University Police Department and graduated in the 132nd Basic Class of the WV State Police Academy in December of 2007. Darin joined the Buckhannon Police Department in 2009 and has also worked for the Granville Police Department. He has received certifications in SWAT, Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) and Police Bike Patrol.

Corporal Marshall O’Connor – 307
Cpl. O’Connor moved to West Virginia from New Jersey in 2013 to begin his career in law enforcement. He started at Tygart Valley Regional Jail before getting hired with Buckhannon Police in July of 2013. He graduated from the 157th basic class at the West Virginia State Police Academy in 2014. He is a Gracie Survival Tactics (GST) instructor and has also received a certificate in Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE).

Patrolman Angel McCauley – 309
Ptlmn. McCauley is a 2008 graduate of Buckhannon Upshur High School. She was a Military Police Officer prior to her endeavors in civilian Law Enforcement. She was hired in 2018 and graduated with the 176th Basic Class from the West Virginia State Police Academy. Her current interests include Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) and investigations.

Patrolman Sam Kraemer - 310
Ptlmn. Kraemer was raised in a small town on the East coast of Florida. While growing up he was a member of the Palm Bay Police Explorers Post 597. He graduated from Bethany Christian School in Melbourne Florida in 2015. Since then Sam moved to the state of Texas where he worked in the Wise County Jail for a short time before moving to West Virginia. After moving to West Virginia, he worked at Central Regional Jail before applying and getting hired on with the Buckhannon Police Department in June of 2018.

Patrolman Colin Cope – 311
Ptlmn. Cope moved to Buckhannon from Ohio in 2018 to begin his career in law enforcement. He graduated from the 179th Basic Class of the West Virginia State Police Academy in 2019. He has received training in Less Lethal Tactics and First Aid. Colin is also a certified diver with training in search and recovery.

Patrolman Tanner Collins - 312
Ptlmn. Collins is a 2013 graduate of Glenville State College earning his degree in Natural Resource Management. Shortly after his college graduation, he joined the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources as a Natural Resources Police Officer, graduating from the police academy in 2014. While working for the WVDNR, he was awarded the Life Saving Award (2016), and was selected as the WV State Natural Resources Police Officer of the Year (2018). He joined the ranks of the Buckhannon Police Department in 2017. He is currently a firearms instructor and the only certified drone pilot for both the BPD and the WVDNR. In 2019, he was awarded the Meritorious Police Award by the City of Buckhannon.
